Since 1985, Southern Lawns has been building and maintaining some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Piedmont.  From a one employee, one truck company to a company today that maintains over three and one half million square feet of residential and commercial properties.

Founder and owner Jim Humphries is a 1975 graduate of  North Carolina State University.  In his career years - before starting Southern Lawns - Jim was as a Golf Course Superintendent and consultant to many golf courses in the Piedmont, including Roaring Gap Country Club, Deep Springs Country Club, and Croasdaile Country Club.

Jim has served on advisory committees to University of North Carolina, Guilford Technical Community College and the North Carolina Turfgrass Council. He has also served as both President or Board Member of the Piedmont Golf Course Superintendents Association,  the North Carolina Turfgrass Council, North Carolina Green Industry Council, and The Center for Turgrass Environmental Research and Education at North Carolina State University.

 In the year 2000 Southern Lawns was awarded the Southern Lawns was awarded the Small Business of the Year award by the Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce.
